Matt Mauer’s vision for Kansas City is simple: good infrastructure, good government, good jobs, and good growth. The City Council has a powerful role in shaping the direction of the city and the future of our communities, and it needs powerful representation that will always stand for our residents and our city first. As our City Councilman, Matt will always have our interests ahead of everything else.
Career Civil Servant
Matt comes from a long line of civil servants. His grandfather, grandmother, father, and brothers all also worked for our local governments, and Matt grew up learning that serving your community is one of the most important things a person can do. As a result, Matt served for more than 30 years as a firefighter, then captain, then battalion chief in the Kansas City Fire Department. His strong record of service in Kansas City included everything from keeping the airport- and the hundreds of thousands of people who fly through it each year- safe to making sure our neighborhoods and places of business remained a great place to live, work, and grow.
Proud Husband, Father, and Grandfather
Matt is the proud father of 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters, and the proud grandfather of 3 grandchildren. As a husband, father, and grandfather, one of his greatest joys has been raising his children in one the best cities in the nation where they had the opportunity to grow up in beautiful neighborhoods, obtain a good public education, and put their own roots down in the place we all call home. On the City Council, Matt will prioritize policies and programs for current and future needs that keep Kansas City a great place to live, and make it an even better place for our children to continue to call home as they grow, learn, and live.

Matt Mauer is a lifelong Kansas City with a passion for making our city the best it can be, and those roots and that drive are exactly what he will bring to the City Council. Matt currently lives in the Northland, but he was raised in Midtown and has lived all over Kansas City throughout his life, giving him a unique perspective on the varied needs and wants of the many diverse parts that make up our great city. As our Councilman, he will bring his deep knowledge of the different parts of our city with him in decision-making, giving him an unrivaled perspective for making some of the difficult decisions that face us as we build the Kansas City of the future.
